El Greco - Week 17
EL GRECO… this Baroque era artist didn’t come into vogue until the Romantic era. He discarded realism for emotion and spirit, and for this he was disdained in his own time.
We will be making “tall drawings” of something. Thus bring in a large print out of a photo OR a clipping OR a homemade drawing of a person, animal or even yourself on an 8-1/2” x 11” piece of paper. We’ll take it from there!

Albrecht Durer- week16
Our artist this week is Albrecht Durer, who is famous for his woodblock prints.
We will be making 6”x6”, single-color prints of a design that we make on balsa wood.
Each student will make an abstract design of impressions in the wood, which will then be “inked” and
applied to paper. Also, Durer signed each work with his initials (below). Each child might like come
up with a design for their own initials!

Artist for week 15 coming up!
Fra Angelico painted golden halos around angels in heaven. Bring in a simple, pencil drawing of something that represents innocence and inner goodness that shines out. You could pick an angel, a bunny, a fish with shiny scales, a crown with jewels, an abstract & uplifting shape design, a star in the sky, a baby. We will be using a piece of dark construction paper (rich purple, black, midnight blue, red) and will apply shiny silver details and brilliant paint hues. (If you have dark construction paper, you could even bring in your “final” sketch and work straight on that. However, there will be of paper available.)

Artist for week 14 - Ghiberti :
ART LESSON:
The artist is Ghiberti .
Florentine Relief: see attached description… We will use 6”x 6” cardboard squares. Students should draw a simple scene, perhaps stick-figure-like, as shown in this example, of that size. The final step of the project (using steel wool to polish the features in the relief) you will complete at home.
